The Victorian Catchment Management Council Guidelines require that the Regional Catchment Strategy also includes a ‘Local Areas’ section to focus on the integration of the themes and related topics in a way that is relevant to local communities. Hence, there is a dual approach to considering integrated catchment management in these guidelines.

This section may include consideration of important matters such as: planning; land use change;
landscape values; climate change; sustainable agriculture, water and land use planning; resilient and liveable cities and towns; recreational use; demographic changes and so on.

The local areas that have been developed for the Corangamite region are:

Northern Uplands

Basalt Plains

Western District Lakes

Otway Coast

Barwon Plains

Bellarine and Surf Coast

Geelong City

Ballarat City
